Who I Help
Who I Help
Rather than organizing her practice strictly by diagnosis, Athena Metos, MA, LMFT often thinks first about who is in the room and what stage of life they are navigating. A preteen’s first anxious spiral, a young adult’s stalled decision, a couple’s repeating argument and a family’s unspoken rules all call for a different starting point, even when some of the underlying material overlaps. This page is a shorter route in: find the description closest to your situation and read from there.
The Practice
Fourteen Years of Systemic Work
Athena is a licensed marriage and family therapist with 14 years in practice, Level 2 Gottman trained, with extensive additional training in eating disorders. She spent three years working under a psychiatrist, which shaped how closely she pays attention to the line between what therapy can do and what belongs with a prescriber. Her lens is systemic and relational: a person’s difficulty is read in the context of the relationships and household around it, not as an isolated malfunction to be corrected in a vacuum.
In practice, that means she sees preteens, teens and adults, and she sees them individually, as couples, and as whole families, sometimes shifting the configuration from one stage of the work to another. A teenager might start in individual sessions and later bring a parent in for two or three sessions to renegotiate a house rule. A couple might do joint work and then split into individual sessions for a period before returning to the room together. The structure follows the problem rather than the other way around.

What to Expect Before You Book
Individual sessions run 60 minutes at $200. Couples and family sessions run 60 minutes at $250. Select Health, BCBS, UBH and University of Utah Health Plans are accepted, and the front desk can confirm your specific benefits before your first appointment.
Sessions happen in person at the Salt Lake City office at 24 South 600 East, Suite 2, or by telehealth for anyone located in Utah at the time of the appointment. There is no consultation call offered before scheduling; the first real conversation happens in the session itself, once the contact form has been sent and an appointment set.
Athena is licensed in Utah only and cannot see clients located outside the state, even by telehealth. She does not treat substance abuse, grief, or OCD, and she is not a prescriber: medication questions belong with a physician or psychiatrist.
