A Young City, Old Neighborhoods
Canyon Access, Settled Streets
Millcreek only became its own city in 2016, but the neighborhoods underneath that new boundary line are some of the valley’s most established: mature trees, mid-century homes, and a settled, quiet character that is different from the newer suburbs further south. Millcreek Canyon sits at its eastern edge, and plenty of residents treat a hike or a drive up the canyon as part of an ordinary week rather than a special trip.
There is no Millcreek office. Athena sees clients here by telehealth, and because Millcreek borders Salt Lake City directly, the drive to the office at 24 South 600 East is short enough that some clients choose to come in for an occasional in-person session even while meeting by video most weeks.
A Common Starting Point
Couples and Relationship Work
Millcreek skews toward established, dual-career households: couples who have been together long enough to have a mortgage, a routine, and a set of arguments that recur on a schedule of their own. That combination, two demanding jobs and a life built around them, tends to squeeze relationship maintenance to the margins until a couple notices they are mostly coordinating logistics rather than actually connecting.
Athena is Level 2 Gottman-trained, and couples counseling here works from that framework: understanding the specific conflict cycle a couple gets stuck in, building repair skills for the moments that used to spiral, and rebuilding the kind of ordinary connection that two full-time careers can quietly starve out. Telehealth suits this population particularly well, since it lets both partners join from home right after work without adding a second commute to an already full evening.
Individual therapy is available too, and family sessions for households with teenagers navigating their own version of a busy, high-achievement household.
Getting Started
What the First Sessions Look Like
A couples intake typically starts with each partner’s account of what has been happening and what they want to be different, followed by an assessment of the pattern underneath the specific arguments. From there, sessions build toward concrete tools for the moments that used to escalate, alongside slower work on the disconnection that accumulated while both of you were simply getting through the week.
Telehealth sessions require both partners to be located in Utah at the time of the call, which is straightforward for anyone living in Millcreek.
Athena does not treat substance abuse, grief, or OCD, and she is not a prescriber. Couples sessions are 60 minutes at $250; individual sessions are 60 minutes at $200. Select Health, BCBS, UBH and University of Utah Health Plans are accepted.
